Is a Fitness Program for Me?
Is a fitness program for me?
Yes, regardless of ability, skill level, athletic background, weight, or injury history, a fitness program is for you. I hear this question often, and it breaks my heart that many believe there is a “pre-requisite” to pursuing a fitness program. Fitness is, and should be, for everyone. I’ll do my best to explain why this is our belief and how we can help change that perception. First, we need to define what a fitness program is.
What is a fitness program?
My definition may be different than most. I believe a fitness program should be designed to help the athlete pursue a healthier, more capable (fit), version of themselves. The goals can range from pursuing an Olympic dream to simply being able to maintain the ability to live on your own.
This definition can be widely debated as some believe it’s simply about competition, your given sport, or what media makes “fitness” look like. To me, it’s important for everyone to know that while media’s definition is also somewhat accurate, it doesn’t apply to everyone. Fitness can be defined simply by the condition of being physically fit and healthy. We believe longevity, and the ability to enjoy life, can be maximized by pursuing fitness. Our goal is to assist everyone in this pursuit and, as a result, help them to get a little more out of every day.
How do I know if I can do a fitness program?
Can you do a fitness program?
100% yes!
Can you do any and every program?
No, because not every program is right for you. Your fitness program should be designed for your goals. Some athletes may have a goal of ridding themselves of knee pain while others may want to run their first marathon. Both are great goals to pursue but the training program used in the pursuit should match said goals.
Should everyone do a fitness program?
We believe that maintaining, or building, a level of fitness is crucial to a joyful and long life. It’s not about getting a six pack or squatting 300 pounds. It’s about improving your overall health and increasing that “capability” we mentioned earlier. Regardless of where you are now, it’s important to strive for just a little more.
Why do we believe this?
To us, it’s personal. We’ve lost loved ones that struggled to just stay moving. Our loved ones have dealt with chronic illness, cancer, and other ailments. And it’s not just us. We know a great deal of others have had similar tragic experiences. At this point, we could go on and list every ailment that is more likely to occur without movement or exercise in our lives, but we are not here to intimidate you.
We know we can’t definitively prevent or cure disease. But maybe we can help our bodies put up a stronger fight. Maybe we can be around to see our great-great-grandkids. Or maybe we can just feel a little better in our own skin.
Regardless of your perception of a fitness program, know that a program can be designed to meet you where you are at. The truth is, programs are about taking a progressive step towards your goals, no matter how small. And we’re here to help because if the goal is important to you, it’s important to us.
We’re here to tell you that yes, you can. All it takes is starting. It’s okay to be hesitant, nervous, or even afraid to begin. Those feelings are normal but should not be debilitating. Know that it’s possible, and you can do it. Plus, we are here to help… because every goal matters.
